Emily Goodrum is an interdisciplinary visual artist residing between Dallas, Texas and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Emily has a background in public art management and community development in addition to her personal artistic practice. Emily grew up surrounded by the arts and also felt a strong sense of social awareness and philosophical questioning which are continued thematic experiences that her work addresses. Connections are made between diverse areas of thought and activity through abstracted metaphorical representations in her work. Emily grew up in North Dallas and studied political philosophy and community and regional planning at The University of Texas at Austin. One of the constant threads in her work is innate holism, bringing insights from these and other areas of inquiry into her artistic practice.
The artistic practice of Emily Goodrum functions as an extended metaphor of the search for truth and meaning in life, addressing universal themes of duality, complexity, and the quest to understand reality. Emily uses diverse methods and materials, ranging from ink on paper, wall-mounted wood and LED light sculptures, to room-sized installations. She is currently developing concepts that further expand her use of different materials and scope in new installations.
